For his part, the press representative of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), Alim Siddique, told CYPE that United Nations peacekeepers are in the area patrolling and monitoring the situation closely.
A source briefed on the situation on the ground told the agency that construction crews from both sides are in the area, working and cooperating with UN peacekeepers who are there, that the status of the dead zone is being protected and that the implementation of the understanding that has been achieved is proceeding so far as planned. He also said that the United Nations is in contact and discussing with both sides about this issue and the situation on the ground.
The Government Spokesperson told the KYPE that from the day the agreement was reached, the preliminary work began on our side so that they could proceed with the subdivision and paving of the road, noting that today the work begins under the supervision and coordination of the United Nations .
