Complaints record for speeding in Limassol and Famagusta Provinces

A total of 3,453 drivers were reported during the weekly Cypriot campaign conducted by the Police from 11 to 17 February, for exceeding the speed limit, while five drivers were reported in the last 24 hours for this crime, in the Limassol and Famagusta Provinces.

According to the Police, yesterday around 20:15, members of the Limassol Traffic Police, during a campaign for the prevention of road collisions, spotted two people, aged 21 and 23, moving at a speed of 139 kilometers per hour instead of 50. The two drivers failed to stop at the signal of the Police members, developing speed, while they were located and stopped five minutes later.

An inspection of their documents revealed that they were both driving without a certificate of suitability, their license had been suspended, and they were driving recklessly and dangerously.

The two persons are expected to be brought before a Court today for the registration of the case against them.

Besides, at 20:40 last night, members of the Famagusta Traffic Police spotted a vehicle moving at a speed of 103 kilometers per hour instead of 65, on the road Kavo Greko - Ayia Napa. The driver was signaled to stop, however he developed speed and entered a dirt road, where he then stopped.

The driver was found to be 35 years old and was driving without a safety certificate, without a license and without a certificate of suitability. Both the 35-year-old and his vehicle were taken to the Ayia Napa Police Station, which undertook the investigation of the case.

Two more people were found today in the early hours of the morning driving too fast in Limassol and are expected to be brought before a Court for registering a case in relation to traffic offenses.

Specifically, members of the Traffic Headquarters, during a campaign to prevent road collisions, spotted in two different cases, 18-year-old and 20-year-old, moving at 174 kilometers per hour instead of 80 and 112 kilometers per hour instead of 50, respectively.

A further check of the documents of the two drivers revealed that the 18-year-old was driving without a safety certificate, without a registration certificate, without a certificate of fitness and without traffic lights at the front of the vehicle.

For the 20-year-old, it was found that he was driving with windows of limited visibility and without traffic lights at the front.
Police note that during the weekly nationwide campaign that took place between the dates 11-17 February, 2019, for speeding, 3,453 drivers were reported for this crime.
