The employees of the "Agios Lazaros" Disabled Persons' Foundation, members of the PASEY-PEO and OIYK-SEK Unions, are going on a 24-hour strike today, Wednesday, April 2nd.
Symbolically, at 10 am, the workers will gather outside the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare to deliver a memorandum.
In their statement, the Foundation's employees state that "despite our repeated efforts to dialogue and find a solution regarding the conclusion of the first collective agreement, the Board of Directors refuses to include automatic indexation (ATA) in the collective agreement."
"This decision was not taken lightly, as we understand the direct impact of the Foundation's operation on the adult children we care for and love dearly. Unfortunately, the intransigence of the Administration forces us to assert our rights in this way. The responsibility for this situation lies solely with the Board of Directors, which must assume its responsibilities and provide an immediate solution. For 15 months now, we have been in the process of concluding a collective agreement, without result, even after the mediation of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance," they add.
They report that the mediation service declared an impasse on 21/1/2025 due to the intransigent stance of the Board of Directors.
"Despite our warnings, our symbolic two-hour work stoppage, we have not seen any response until today. We had announced a 24-hour strike last month, which we suspended at the request of the Director of the Labor Relations Department and we entered into dialogue again in his presence without any result. Instead of a result, the Board of Directors proceeded a few days later with personal contracts with increases that we had agreed upon during the negotiations - in an attempt to divide the employees," they note.
They also report that in this case they did not go on strike either, out of respect for the institution's particularity, and they also addressed the Deputy Ministry of Welfare, requesting its intervention in a letter, as the Institution is supported by public money and state sponsorship from the Deputy Ministry of Welfare.
"Where state sponsorship is provided or the possibility of providing services by third parties is given and concerns Organizations that are supported by public money, but also state sponsorship, employees should be covered by a collective labor agreement and basic labor rights such as ATA, the Provident Fund and the 13th salary should be provided. We expect the understanding and support of society, as our struggle concerns the care that the children of the Foundation and all employees of the Sector deserve," conclude the employees of the "Agios Lazaros" Foundation for the Disabled, members of the PASEY-PEO and OIYK-SEK Trade Unions.
