The two archimandrites of Abvakum Monastery, Nektarios and Porphyrios, who are on holiday, are referred to a direct trial on September 27. The two archimandrites were charged in the District Court of Nicosia and released on condition.
The accused are facing 18 offences. Specifically, they are charged with conspiracy to commit extortion, theft, money laundering and false tax declaration.
The prosecution requested Archimandrite Nektarios to sign a bond of €100.000 with one or more worthy guarantors. His name to be placed on the list prohibited from exiting the Republic and to surrender all his travel documents. He also asked to report to a police station of his choice twice a week.
For Archimandrite Nektarios, the same conditions were requested, with a difference in the amount of the guarantee, which amounts to €50.000.
Defense counsel agreed to the terms, which were ultimately imposed by the Judge.
