A police officer was placed on leave after the serious incidents that occurred on Sunday and which caused, both inside and outside the field, a portion of fans during the basketball match between the Apollon and Anorthosis teams at the "Tassos Papadopoulos" stadium in Nicosia.
According to police information, the policeman in question was spotted on a bus that was transporting Apollo fans from Limassol to Nicosia.
There is no support from the police, it is no coincidence that no arrests are made, said the president of the Equality branch of the Police, Nikos Loizidis.
Speaking in a strong tone in Trito, Mr. Loizidis said that the opinion of the police officers in the field is not sought and meetings are held without result with the participation of technocrats.
He spoke about the almost very serious injury of a fellow police officer yesterday in the leg from a flare shot. He also explained that the problem of violence in stadiums cannot be solved unless police officers are given the green light to use legal force against people under the influence of drugs.
It is no accident, said Mr. Loizidis, that no arrests are made, explaining that all his colleagues are facing disciplinary investigations. He also described as unacceptable the fact that a match was held in a stadium that does not have closed circuit monitoring.
It is important, he added, to create an anti-bullying department and anti-bullying groups in every province.
