The Kurdish activist Kenan Agias, who is being held in the Central Prisons, is on an indefinite hunger strike from this morning, awaiting the hearing of his case by the Court of Appeal in the coming days, as to whether the Cypriot authorities will finally hand him over to the German and by extension to the Turkish authorities. The Court of Appeal will decide within the coming week whether to extradite Agias to Germany, which, after consultation with Turkey, issued a warrant against the Kurdish fighter on the charge of participating in a terrorist organization. In particular, the Germans consider, without at least having presented any indications or presumptions, that Kenan Agias participated as a high-ranking official in a local group of the PKK (which is considered a terrorist organization) in the provinces of Germany.

It is recalled that on April 19, in the first instance and specifically in the provincial court of Larnaca presided over by Judge Papathanasiou, it was decided that the Cypriot authorities hand over Kenan Agias to the Germans. Which, according to the Kurdish fighter himself and the people around him, you think will lead him straight into the hands of the Turks. Furthermore, if this move is implemented and Agias is finally handed over by the Cypriot authorities to the German authorities, it will automatically rank Cyprus among the countries that are directly or indirectly collaborating with the persecution of Kurds and Ankara's relentless pursuit of them. Kenan Agias, who has been in Cyprus for more than a decade and since 2011 under the status of a political refugee, has sent a letter to the PtD, the PtB and other Officials pointing out the political and historical pitfalls and dangers of his unjust extradition to German and by extension the Turkish authorities. It is also about a man who was imprisoned from the age of 17 until he was about 29 by the Turks because as a student he participated in demonstrations for the freedom of the Kurds. In the prisons of Turkey also, from the hardships, he lost his brother who was also imprisoned for the same reasons. Therefore, the decision of the appeals court will essentially decide whether it will return Kenan Agias to the nightmare he lived for over a decade in his youth, or whether it will save him and the historical reputation of the Republic of Cyprus. Rally of solidarity In order to declare their solidarity with Kenan Agias, who started an indefinite hunger strike this morning, Kurdish and Cypriot sympathizers will hold a rally today at 5:30 pm in Freedom Square. After the rally, there will be a march to the central prisons where the Kurdish activist Kenan Agias, who is on hunger strike as of today, is being held.
