The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (YPAN) is moving forward with further strengthening the institution of Summer Public Schools (SPS) by increasing their number from 58 to 64, covering all five provinces of Cyprus, in the 2025-2026 school year.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, the long-term goal of the Summer Public Schools is to offer learning and creative employment opportunities, especially to children from vulnerable population groups.
The operation of the Summer Public Schools program will be implemented from June 22 to July 24, 2026.
To meet the operational needs of the Summer Public Schools, primary, pre-primary and special education teachers will be employed, while a number of school chaperones/assistants will also be employed to meet the needs of special education children.
Furthermore, during the operation of the Summer Public Schools, the Greek language learning program will continue to be offered to children with an immigrant background.
The Summer Public Schools program is offered free of charge to all children. Parents/guardians contribute financially only to cover the cost of meals for children who have chosen to attend the afternoon zone of the Summer Public Schools.
According to the announcement, a very well-organized educational program of creative activities is implemented at the Summer Public Schools, which are intertwined with the interests and different abilities and needs of the children.
The Summer Public Schools Curriculum includes creative activities, such as: Visual Expression, Music, Theater, Physical Education, Life Education, with themes intertwined with the summer season, indoor and outdoor games, Puppet Theater, Reading/Library, etc.
Also, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth has proceeded, since the previous school year, to expand the institution, so that it can be universally applied in Special Schools.
The operation of the program in Special Schools will be implemented for the period from June 22 to July 31, 2026, with the aim of offering learning opportunities and creative employment to children attending seven Special Schools.
On a daily basis, their program will last from 7:45 to 13:05 or until 16:00 (for those children who choose afternoon classes).
For more information or clarifications, interested parents/guardians can contact the school their child attends.
