Strong winds and a noticeable drop in temperature - Snow is expected

The low pressure system centered north of Cyprus is moving east and causing very strong to gusty westerly winds, as well as a noticeable drop in temperature, the Met Office says.

Today the weather will be mostly cloudy and isolated rains are expected at intervals. Locally, light snowfall is expected in the higher mountains. Winds will initially blow mainly southwest to west, very strong, 6 Beaufort and locally to strong, 6 to 7 Beaufort, to become by noon mainly westerly to northwest, very strong to strong, 6 to 7 Beaufort and transient locally on the coast until stormy, 7 to 8 Beaufort.

It is noted that a yellow warning has been issued for very strong to severe winds, with effect from Wednesday from 09:00 until 18:00 of the same day.

The temperature will rise to around 16 degrees inland, around 17 along the coast and around 5 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost may form locally in the lee later.

The sea on the eastern and southern coasts will gradually become rough and up to very rough on the western and northern coasts. In the evening the weather will be mostly sunny. Winds will be mainly northwest to north, moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort, but initially locally to very strong, 5 to 6 Beaufort. The sea on the south and east coasts will be up to rough, while on the west and north coasts it will be up to stormy. The temperature will drop to around 8 degrees in the interior, around 10 on the coasts and around 2 degrees in the higher mountains, where locally frost is expected to form.

On Thursday, locally increased clouds will be observed, while on Friday the weather will be mainly sunny. On Saturday, the weather will be cloudy at times and isolated rains may occur.

The temperature on Thursday is expected to drop slightly, to fluctuate significantly below the average climatic values, while until Saturday a gradual rise in temperature is expected, but to remain slightly below the average climatic values.
