Significant increase in Producer Price Index in July

A significant increase of 27,5% was presented in July by the Producer Price Index in Industry, demonstrating the inflationary pressures prevailing in the economy, in the wake of the crisis in Ukraine and the recovery from the pandemic of Covid-19.

According to data from the Statistical Service, the Producer Price Index in July 2022 reached 140,0 points (base 2015=100), marking an increase of 4,6% compared to June 2022 and 27,5% compared to the corresponding period last year period.

For the period January-July 2022, the index recorded an increase of 21,4% compared to the corresponding period of 2021.

On a year-on-year (July 2021) basis, electricity supply shot up by 80,6%, with increases recorded across all sectors. Mining and quarrying registered an increase of 15,0%, water supply and material recovery 14,1% and manufacturing 13,1%.

Compared to the previous month of 2022, the index saw an increase in the electricity supply sector by 16,2%, mining and quarrying by 4,5% and manufacturing by 0,3%, while it saw a decrease in the supply sector water and material recovery by 1,8%.
