Yellow warning for extremely high temperature, valid from 11.00 to 17.00 for today Tuesday, the Cyprus Meteorological Department issued.

According to the announcement of the Department of Meteorology, the maximum temperature inside is expected to reach around 41 degrees Celsius.

The public is urged to be aware of the expected high temperatures.

"Some health risks are possible among vulnerable population groups such as elderly and small children", reports the Cyprus Meteorological Department.

In the meantime, the risk of forest fires exploding and spreading will be on "red alert" level today, Tuesday, according to a statement from the Department of Forestry.

The announcement emphasizes that lighting a fire without a permit is prohibited and that it constitutes an offense which, according to the Forestry Law of 2012, is punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to €50.000,00 or both penalties together and according to the Fire Prevention in the Countryside Act of 1988 up to 5 years or with a fine of up to €20.000 or both penalties together.

Lighting a fire, for food preparation, is allowed only in the barbecues of the picnic areas.

It also appeals to the public to be especially careful during their excursions, completely avoiding actions and activities that are likely to cause a fire, such as the use of tools or agricultural machinery that produce heat, sparks or flame, such as emery, oxygen welding and electric welding.

In the event that someone notices smoke or fire, they are invited to call immediately 1407 (Forestry Department) or 112 (Fire Service), the announcement concludes.

Seasonal low pressure affects the area.

Today, after the local thin fog and low clouds have dissipated, the weather will be mostly clear, although there will be locally increased clouds in the mountains during the afternoon and early afternoon. Winds will initially be variable light, 3 Beaufort, to gradually become mainly southwest to northwest, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and transient locally on the southern coast to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be a bit rough. The temperature will rise to 41 degrees inland, around 33 on the south and east coasts, 35 on the north coast and around 31 degrees on the west coast, as well as in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the weather will be mostly clear, but there will be increased low clouds at times. Locally, light mist or fog is expected to form. The winds will be mainly northwest to northeast weak, 3 Beaufort and the sea will be calm to a little rough. The temperature will drop to around 22 degrees in the interior, west and north coasts, around 23 on the south and east coasts and 21 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the weather will remain mostly sunny and warm. The temperature is not expected to change significantly during the three days, remaining above the average climatic values.
