The two drivers involved in the traffic accident, which occurred around 12 noon on the Nicosia - Limassol highway, are seriously injured, with the driver of the articulated lorry being transferred to Nicosia General Hospital.
In a post on platform X, Andreas Kettis, Press Secretary of the Fire Service, states that "the second person, the driver of the articulated vehicle transporting hay bales, has been extricated, after strenuous efforts by members of the Force, using a rescue harness. The person was handed over to the Ambulance Service for First Aid and transported to the TAEP."
Mr. Kettis stated that "the fire in the fuel tanker that was involved with an articulated vehicle in the accident has been extinguished and the Fire Department remains on alert for a possible new ignition."
Meanwhile, according to the Police, the two drivers who were trapped by the vehicles are seriously injured, with the driver of the articulated lorry having been transferred to Nicosia General Hospital.
The tanker truck caught fire and is burning due to the load it was carrying, while fuel oil has been spilled on the road within a radius of approximately 150 meters and it will take a lot of work to clean the asphalt.
Furthermore, it is expected that there will be a long process for moving the articulated vehicle, which has overturned on the road, resulting in one direction of the Nicosia - Limassol highway remaining closed for a considerable period of time.
It is noted that members of the Police, Fire Department, EMAK and Public Works are at the scene.
