The life of a 13-year-old student, who is in the sixth grade of a primary school in Nicosia and is facing very serious health problems, is in danger. As his family was informed by the school, now the child will share his companion with another student.
According to the newspaper "O Phileleftheros", after this development, the family of the child expresses its intense concern for the event, since the child will be unaccompanied for some time.
According to his father, Theofanis Andreou, the child is facing many health problems. He has partial cerebral palsy, severe motor problems, learning problems, has a hydrocephalus valve and has undergone many surgeries on the brain and left arm. The 13-year-old has a splint on his left leg, has epilepsy and cannot self-care for even his most basic needs at school.
The multiple problems faced by the thirteen-year-old child are confirmed by the pediatric neurosurgeon who operated on him seven times and who emphasizes that he needs constant support, since his life is in danger.
Serious complaints
The father of the child also complains that, although he informed the Ministry of Education, he nevertheless never received official information about the issue of his child's companion. He even claims that the competent Ministry operates "illegally and immorally and with obvious prejudice against children with special needs". Theofanis Andreou intends to report the Republic of Cyprus to the UN for racism against a child with special needs and to send a letter to the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of the Child.
According to the publication, citing sources in the Ministry of Education, the District Committee on Special Education examined the child's case and ruled that with the two attendants at the school, the needs of students in need can be served.
