The Police proceeded to arrest a 44-year-old man yesterday, to facilitate investigations into the circumstances of the injury of a 49-year-old man, who has been hospitalized at the Limassol General Hospital since May 20, 2024.
The 44-year-old was arrested on a warrant issued against him based on testimony obtained during police investigations. His photo and details were made public by the Police on May 26, 2024, in an attempt to locate him.
The investigation of the case began on the afternoon of May 20, when the Police were informed that a 49-year-old man was found seriously injured on a street in Limassol and was taken to the Limassol General Hospital. The 49-year-old was kept for hospitalization in the hospital's intensive care unit, suffering from subdural hematoma, hemothorax, pneumothorax and fractures in various parts of his body, while his health condition was described as critical.
From the Police examinations, testimony was secured according to which the 49-year-old's injury was allegedly caused by an attack, which he received in the area of Limassol, by unknown persons. As part of the investigation, testimony was also secured against the 44-year-old, on the basis of which a judicial arrest warrant was issued against him.
Yesterday, around 7.30pm, the 44-year-old was located and arrested by members of the Police. After a search, a knife and various burglary tools were found in his possession. He was therefore re-arrested for the separate offenses of carrying a knife and illegal possession of burglary tools and was remanded in custody to facilitate investigations. Today he is expected to be brought before the District Court of Limassol, for the issuance of a detention order.
After the arrest of the 44-year-old, the continued publication of his photo and personal information is unnecessary.
Regarding the state of health of the 49-year-old, he continues to be hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Limassol General Hospital.
