Almost 6000 cases reported to the police in just one year, in 2015. According to the report of the Statistical Service, out of 5948 cases reported, more than half, 3233 concerned property offenses.
Of the 5948, 1899 entered the file as undetected, 2939 remain under investigation while only 1177 were investigated. Moreover, 32 were classified as non-existent and one as false. If one adds the unsolved cases and those that are under consideration then one will see that 79,6% of the cases in 2015 have not been investigated.
Regarding the geographical distribution of crime, Nicosia holds the scepter, followed by Limassol.
Crime is high in Paphos as well as in Free Famagusta. Of the total number of reported cases, 65% were committed in urban centers.
According to the report of the Statistical Service, 89,1% of the offenders were men while 77,2% were Cypriots. Finally, the month with the most complaints is September.
