The three members of the MMAD who were suspended for the case of the escape of lifer Theodoros Theofanous are returning to their duties, while the investigation of the investigating officer of the case is heading towards completion.
In his statements to KYPE, the Police Spokesman Christos Andreou said that the three members of the MMAD are returning to their duties today, as the period of their availability ended after the escape of Theophanos.
Mr. Andreou added, the investigation of the Police officer who was designated as the investigative officer for the case is in the final stage and it is expected that his report along with the recommendations will soon be sent to the leadership of the Force.
Afterwards, the investigator's recommendations and whether disciplinary offenses against the three members of the MMAD will be examined. The three members of the MMAD were responsible, together with four prison guards, for transporting Theophanos from the Central Prisons to his home and supervising him during his stay at the site.
It is recalled that Theodoros Theofanous, also known as a hairdresser, had escaped from his father's house in Choletria, Paphos, on September 26. He was arrested by the Police in a central part of Limassol four days later.
The case had resulted in the suspension of the Chief of Police, Stelios Papatheodoros and the Deputy Chief, Dimitris Dimitrios, as well as the Deputy Director of the Central Prisons, Haris Filippidis. In their place, Themistos Arnaoutis was appointed by the President of the Republic to the position of Chief, Panikos Stavrou to the position of Deputy Chief and Konstantinos Konstantinidis to the position of Deputy Director of the Central Prisons.
