Consumers are expecting very large increases in electricity bills for the month of August in Cyprus.

As Christina Papadopoulou, the spokesperson of the Cyprus Electricity Authority, explained to OMEGA and the show INFORMATION NOW, in recent months there has been an upward trend in the electricity sector, which is due to the increase in the price of oil internationally.

As he said the price of fuel oil last year compared to the price this year has doubled.

As Mrs. Papadopoulou pointed out, in the last twelve months the price of household consumption has increased by 38%.

This means that if a household last year paid 100 euros for electricity in August, this year for exactly the same consumption it will pay 138 euros.

The problem that households will have with the August bills is expected to be even more intense as August is the month possibly with the highest electricity consumption in households due to the very high temperatures.

Ms. Papadopoulou also referred to the payment facilities that consumers will be able to receive who may not be able to pay the new bills.
