Intubated but out of danger, the 7-year-old girl who was seriously injured yesterday Monday after a stone was thrown from the oncoming traffic, which broke the windshield of the vehicle in which the child was riding and hit her on the head, is hospitalized at Makarios Hospital.
As mentioned by the Medical Director and Director of the Pediatric Surgery Clinic of Makarios Hospital, Dr. Christos Minas, "the 7-year-old girl was injured in the head resulting in the creation of a very rare and largely improbable mechanism of injury from the expulsion of a stone from the opposite flow of traffic that broke the chest and hit the child on the head. The child was initially taken to the Limassol General Hospital where tests were performed and it was diagnosed that he has a skull fracture and a possible hematoma. He was taken to the General Hospital of Nicosia, where severe brain injury with a skull fracture and hematomas was confirmed. This was followed by neurosurgery at the Nicosia General Hospital to drain the hematoma. He was transferred at midnight to the intensive care unit of Makarios Hospital intubated.
