The total number of employees in the general public sector rose to 71.563 in the 4th quarter of 2021, according to data from the Statistical Service, showing an increase of 2,3% compared to the corresponding period of 2020.
In the General Government the employment amounted to 65.920 people and in the Companies and Enterprises that are controlled by the Government to 5.643.
In the General Government, which consists of the Government, the Non-Profit Organizations and the Local Authorities, the employment amounted to 53.027, 8.476 and 4.417 people respectively.
Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020, employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 1.606 people (2,3%). An increase was observed in the Central Government by 1.693 persons (2,8%) and in the Local Authorities by 399 persons (9,9%), while in the Companies and Enterprises Controlled by the Government there was a decrease by 486 persons (-7,9%).
Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2021, employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 1.806 people (2,6%). An increase was observed in all three categories, in the Central Government by 1.643 people (2,7%), in the Local Authorities by 136 people (3,2%) and in the Companies and Businesses Controlled by the Government by 27 people (0,5%) .
