The inflow of water into the dams is disappointing, with December evolving, perhaps, to the worst of the decade.
Specifically, the fullness until December 21 reached only 13.1%, even worse than last year such a period which was 18.8%.
Speaking on SIGMA's "Front Page" show, the First Technical Engineer of the Water Department, Phaedrus Roussis, stated that the said water inflow levels in the dams of Cyprus had been predicted by the authorities since April 2017.
Mr. Roussis, in fact, characterized this year as the second worst in terms of water inflows during the quarter October - December.
The worst year, according to Mr. Rousis, was 1990.
Expressing the hope that the drought that affects the island will end soon, Mr. Roussis puts his hopes in the desalination if there is no rain.
Asked if new desalination is planned, Mr. Roussis said that the only desalination that is planned is that of Paphos province, which is expected to operate in mid-2019.
He even warned that without rains, in the immediate future the drought will hit the agricultural sector, where it will be the biggest problem that those in charge will have to deal with.
There, he said, they will try to meet the demands of farmers from other sources, such as recycled water and drilling.
