Today, the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca imposed a prison sentence of eleven years on a 26-year-old man who, after a drug trafficking trial, was found guilty of the crime of importing drugs.
The case concerns the importation of a quantity of cannabis weighing 16 kilograms and approximately 752 grams. The large amount of cannabis was imported into Cyprus in luggage that arrived at Larnaca airport, on a flight from a foreign country, last March. Upon its arrival and detection, the luggage was checked by officers of the Customs Department, as part of the cooperation between the Police and the Customs Department, to combat the importation and trafficking of drugs.
Detection and seizure of a large quantity of drugs
Upon detecting the amount of drugs, the Police proceeded to carry out tests, from which evidence was obtained against the 26-year-old. A judicial arrest warrant was issued against him, pursuant to which he was arrested by members of the YCAN and taken into custody.
The case was investigated by YCAN (Provincial Division of Larnaca).
