The mother accused of abusing her two children in Larissa was remanded in custody after her long apology to the prosecutor.
At the same time, the testimony of the doctor at the Larissa hospital who discovered the signs of the horror experienced by two children, 5 and 6 years old, is shocking.
Through her testimony presented by protothema.gr, she describes in detail what happened until the doctors realized that they were dealing with a cruel story of child abuse.
As the doctor told the authorities, the horror began to unfold last Saturday afternoon (17/5) when the mother and her two children arrived at the hospital. The reason, the woman told them, was the child's cough and difficulty breathing.
From that point on, doctors began to discover signs on the little girl's body that "indicated" abuse.
As the doctor specifically described: "During the clinical examination of the minor, extensive skin lesions were found, especially on the upper and lower extremities, locally ulcerated with abrasions (some "active" and others reminiscent of recent appearance) and scabs (i.e. old damage that has hardened). At the same time, a strange behavior of the mother was observed and neglect was suspected. In particular, without us asking her anything relevant, she herself told us - especially when I started asking her about when the skin lesions appeared, if she had gone to a doctor - and she told me that these lesions are the result of intense itching, she could not afford to go to a doctor and this is a difficult period for her as she is a divorced and abused woman in a hostel with other abused women - but now she lives in a house that was given to her in Terpsithea, Larissa - and she is facing some health problems of a neurological nature and this is the reason why she is not working.
"Burns and marker markings were found on the buttocks"
After the discussion with the mother, as well as the above findings, it was deemed necessary to examine the boy.
As the doctor specifically noted: "After all these findings and observations, always combined with the mother's words and behavior, an objective examination of the boy was deemed necessary, as skin lesions were found in visible areas of both upper limbs and on the face, especially the right cheek."
More specifically, such lesions were found on the upper limbs, lower limbs, buttocks and in the middle of the cervical spine. When all his clothes and underwear were removed, dark-colored marker skin markings were found almost throughout the entire length of the buttocks, his entire penis and the fingers of his lower limbs. When the mother was asked how this happened, she replied "he paints his own body" with me visibly astonished, telling her how the child could reach his buttocks. I also wondered, based on the child's age, how she managed to paint his genitals so evenly.
Throughout the examination, the mother was present and was cooperative and not hesitant. At this point, I should also mention that, considering their age, the children have not achieved the developmental milestones for their age. Full communication with the children was not possible since their speech is not fully understood by everyone."
The doctor then referred to a new conversation she had with the children's mother, during which the children's mother claimed that her ex-husband had kidnapped her three years ago.
In particular, he stated the following: “(…) My mother confided that before Easter she had been communicating via video call with her ex-husband and father of the children, as he insisted on seeing his children on camera. She, as she told me, refused and then threatened to kill her. In the conversation we had, she told me that in the past, three years ago, her ex-husband had forcibly kidnapped her and her children and taken them to Livadia, where he lives. In fact, she told me that the reason she met with him then was to give her money (child support) for the children, which did not happen. I also persistently asked her if their father had beaten the children and she answered me categorically no.”
"John did it"
Finally, the doctor also referred to the conversations she had with the two children, who revealed to her that a certain Giannis had hit them.
"While the mother was talking to the police, I removed the children from the area. I took the opportunity to ask the little girl if her father was hitting her. Her face became serious and she nodded her head in the affirmative. I asked her again and the answer was again positive. Then I asked if the father was hitting the mother and the little girl answered yes in the same way. I asked her brother the same and he answered no. Then I asked her if the father was doing those things to the little girl and she said yes. Then I told her how he did it and she showed me with her hand, making the motion in the air like someone putting out a cigarette.
(…) At this stage, the boy, after I asked him how the injury to his cheek happened, replied “John,” which made me wonder if they had earlier meant their real dad or some other person they might consider to be their dad. After that, I approached the mother again, who was much more charged and a little nervous, as she mentioned that she was feeling dizzy and suddenly started limping. I asked her who John was and she told me that he was a man from the village who helps them at home. I asked her again if anyone was hitting the children, if she was hiding something or if she felt guilty about something and she answered no, but this time I would characterize her behavior as guilty, as if she wanted to hide something. (…) I should say at this point that at one point I asked the children if they were hungry and they answered yes, with the mother listening. "Her attitude was completely indifferent, so I decided to buy them something to eat. I should also note that throughout their stay in the Emergency Room, I did not notice the children scratching or itching, as the mother justified as a possible origin of the skin lesions," the witness noted.
"My ex-husband was burning me and the children"
The children's mother gives a completely different version, as shown in the statement she gave to the authorities. The woman "pointed" to her ex-husband as the perpetrator of the child abuse, claiming that the man hit them on Saturday, May 10th.
She specifically claimed: "On Saturday (10/5/2025) in the afternoon, my husband came to my residence. I was alone in the residence with the children, because the other women who live in the house next door had been away since the morning. My husband sat for about 2 hours. At first he was friendly towards me and the children. I understood from his movements and the way he spoke that he had used drugs. Suddenly he started threatening me and saying that he would kill me if I did not agree to see the children.
(…) Then he started hitting me with his hands all over my body, in the presence of the two children. K. started crying while S. rushed to hit his father. At that moment, my husband, who was holding a cigarette in his hand, burned S. on his cheek with the cigarette and the little boy started crying loudly from the pain and the burn. Then I started hitting all three of us, me and my two children, with my hands. He also held the cigarette with his right hand and kept burning me and the children. He burned my daughter on her little hands and the little boy on his hands and neck. He burned me on my right hand. He burned and hit us for about 20 minutes. None of the neighbors heard the screams.”
