The Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court today imposed an eight-year prison sentence on a 47-year-old man, who pleaded guilty to offenses related to conspiracy to commit a felony, transportation and possession of explosives, transportation and possession of firearms and ammunition, offenses committed on May 20, 2024, in Oroklini, Larnaca district.
According to the Police, legal proceedings are underway for the same offenses against a second person, aged 35, who does not admit guilt.
According to the facts of the case, at noon on May 20, 2024, after evaluating information, members of the Police Headquarters spotted the two individuals moving suspiciously and approaching the cemetery in the Oroklini Community of the Larnaca district with their vehicles.
The 35-year-old was monitoring the area as if he were performing a duty, while the 46-year-old got out of his vehicle and entered the cemetery, and after approaching a specific grave, he picked up a large bag.
The suspect was stopped by members of the Police and upon checking the bag, 10 boxes of pistol bullets, a number of cartridges, a pistol and a hunting rifle were found.
Further investigations conducted by the Police found within a specific grave, a military rifle, an anti-tank rifle, two projectiles, three projectile propellants, a package of cartridges, an improvised explosive device, which contained high-powered explosives, a quantity of high-powered explosives, a pistol and two silencers.
