The pay gap between men and women in Cyprus stands at 11%, the gender occupational gap at 19% while part-time employment has increased to 17%, reports the Democratic Labor Federation of Cyprus, noting that "women's day should it is more a day of reflection than celebration."
In a declaration of the EEC, it is also stated that the concerns must be focused "on the patriarchal perceptions and gender social stereotypes that still dominate our society, on female poverty, gender violence, labor exploitation, the absence of women from the centers of decision-making".
He adds that the concerns must concern "turning into political commitment and social reaction in order to break the barrier of silence and tolerance in order to claim the position it deserves in society, in the family, in politics, in employment".
Also, the reflections must aim "to change the attitudes and stereotypes that consider women as inferior human beings with limited human social and labor rights".
The gender statistical indicators, continues the EEC, "paint a sad picture of the position of women in society and in employment which we must reverse".
In conclusion, he assures that "the Department of Equality and Equal Treatment of the EEC will continue the fight until the full and effective implementation of the Law on equal treatment of men and women".
