Low pressure combined with a cold air mass and a strengthened northerly air current are affecting Cyprus, with snowfall occurring in mountainous areas, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Due to snowfall and frost in the Troodos areas, the road network in the mountains is affected, with the Police recommending special attention to passing drivers.
The height of the snow, early in the morning, was 13 centimeters in Troodos Square and 16 centimeters on the highest peaks of Troodos.
The Meteorology Department reports that today the weather will be partly cloudy and initially isolated rain is likely, mainly in the west and north, while light snow will fall in the mountains. The winds will blow mainly northerly, moderate to strong 4 to 5 Beaufort and temporarily in the windward, up to very strong 6 Beaufort. The sea will be rough but initially in the west and north it will be wavy. The temperature will rise to 12 degrees inland, around 14 on the coast and 1 degree in the higher mountains, where frost will prevail.
In the evening the weather will be locally mainly cloudy and light rains on the coasts are possible, while light snowfall in the mountains. The winds will blow northwest to northeast, weak to moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort and temporarily in the windward, up to strong 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough to rough in the south and east but in the west and north it will be rough. The temperature will drop to 2 degrees inland, to 8 on the north coast, around 6 on the rest of the coast and to -4 degrees in the higher mountains. Frost is expected to form in the mountains, semi-mountains and inland areas.
