The Police will carry out intensified traffic checks throughout Cyprus from today, Monday, until next Sunday.
A police statement states that, during the campaign, which will be carried out within the framework of cooperation with the European Traffic Police Network ROADPOL, emphasis will be placed on carrying out speed limit checks, with the aim of preventing serious and fatal road collisions.
"Excessive speed is a very important factor in determining the outcome of a road collision and is considered one of the main causes of serious and fatal road collisions," the Police note.
As it states, speed was the 2nd cause of road deaths, at a rate of 12,6% during the three-year period 2021-2023, for which statistical data is available.
