The Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance, as part of the effort to combat undeclared work and the control of compliance with Basic Labor Laws, announced that in the month of October 2023, targeted inspections will be carried out on a pan-Cypriot basis in Agriculture/Livestock/Wholesale Markets/Packaging Plants.
In the announcement transmitted by the GTP, it is stated that the purpose of the campaign is to raise the awareness of all those involved in the economic activities in question regarding the consequences of undeclared work and non-compliance with the provisions of the relevant Legislation. At the same time, checks will be made regarding compliance with basic employment conditions (salary, working hours, weekly off, etc.).
The Service notes that in accordance with the provisions of the relevant Legislation, in case of detection of an undeclared person in the Social Insurance Fund, an administrative fine of €500 multiplied by 7 months is issued, unless it is proven by the employer that the period of violation was shorter, specifying that in case it is proven that the period of violation was longer, the fine is multiplied by the actual months.
It also reminds that anonymous/named complaints/information regarding undeclared work or violation of terms of employment are accepted on the Cyprus national telephone line 77778577.
