The Police arrested a 17-year-old, in relation to the latest incidents in a shelter for the elderly in Larnaca, where unaccompanied minors also live.

Speaking to the Morning Route, Eleni Constantinou, an officer of the police communication branch, is expected that the young man will be brought to the Larnaca District Court within the day, so that a case can be registered against him.

He also said that members of the Force who are in charge of the safety of the workers and residents of the structure, conduct frequent checks in the area.

Regarding the reports of an indecent assault by a minor against a caregiver at the nursing home, Mrs. Constantinou said that the case has not been reported. He noted, however, that the Police are conducting an ex officio investigation, based on information they have gathered.

The placement of the 20 unaccompanied minors in the elderly shelter was temporary, said the director of the Social Welfare Services, Maria Kyratzi.

Speaking to the Morning Route, he clarified that the minors were placed separately inside the structure and were under the supervision of different personnel.

Mrs. Kyratzi mentioned that four young people have already moved, noting that the rest will also move in the next few days. They will be transferred to communities with smaller structures, depending on the needs of each one.
