The arrest of three persons, the Police proceeded last night, in order to facilitate the investigations regarding an investigated case of aiding the illegal entry into the territory of the Republic. They are three men aged 27, 25 and 34, who were arrested on bail and remanded in custody.

Specifically, around 7.20 pm yesterday, members of the Police, who were on patrol in the province of Larnaca, located in an open area three people, who had travel luggage with them. The presence of the three persons raised suspicions in the police, who put the area under discreet surveillance.

A little while later, a car with two people in it was seen approaching the area. After the three boarded the vehicle in question, they left the scene. The police followed the vehicle and despite the Rizoelia roundabout, they signaled the driver to stop for a check. However, the driver, developing speed, tried to escape to Nicosia.

The members of the Police continued to follow the suspicious vehicle, as a result of which it was possible to stop it on the road, in Strovolos.

From the examinations that followed, it was found that the driver of the vehicle was 25 years old, who was arrested for the spontaneous offense of reckless and dangerous driving and failure to stop after a signal from a Police Officer.

Four other people, aged 25, 34, 37 and 20, were also found inside the vehicle. The examinations carried out revealed that 37-year-olds and 20-year-olds entered Cyprus illegally. According to the police, they arrived in Cyprus, through an illegal airport in the occupied areas and from there an unknown person transported them to the free areas.

The 37-year-old and the 20-year-old expressed their intention to apply for political asylum and, as a result, were transferred to the "Pournara" Hospitality Center.

Arrest warrants were issued against the others, under which they were arrested to facilitate investigations into the crimes of conspiracy to commit a crime and misdemeanor and to assist in the illegal entry, stay or passage through the territory of the Republic.
