The announcement of the Police
The Special Investigation Team for the Investigation of Sexual Abuse of Minors and Missing Persons, of the Office for the Management of Domestic Violence, of the Department for Combating Crime, of the Police Headquarters, is investigating a case of Sexual Abuse, Abuse and Child Abuse Exploitation and Child Pornography Law of 2014, L.91 (I) / 2014.
This case concerns two minors who arrived in Cyprus and then it became clear that they had married adults in Cyprus, of the same nationality as them.
In cooperation with other co-competent services of the state, the two minors were removed and taken to another place of residence, away from their "spouses", while the two adult "spouses" were arrested on 25/11/2020 and placed under 8-day detention.
Sexual abuse of minors, through "marriages" or "engagements" with adults, coming (mainly) from third countries, under the pretext of culture or customs from their country of origin, tends to become a scourge.
The Legislation is very strict in relation to the sexual abuse of children and the protection of children is in the priorities of the Cyprus Police, therefore such illegal actions and behaviors are not accepted.
The Police, as the custodian of the Legislation in Cyprus, strictly investigates the specific cases and both the perpetrators and the persons who hide and do not report such cases or cooperate in committing these crimes, will be brought to justice.
