The 47-year-old confessed to the church burglary and theft

Two men aged 47 and 44 were arrested on Sunday by the Police in the context of the investigations concerning a case of burglary and theft that took place at the Holy Church of Apostle Andreas in Platis Aglantzias, from where various offerings to the Virgin Mary, crosses, chains and amulets were stolen.

The burglary and theft was reported on the morning of August 17. According to a Police representative, based on the examinations by the TAE of Nicosia, suspicions were raised against two persons.

A vehicle was found outside the 47-year-old's house, the theft of which was reported on August 7 to the Nicosia Central Police Station.

The 47-year-old was placed under observation. Yesterday morning shortly before 9, the second suspect, 44 years old, arrived outside the first suspect's house. The two entered the stolen vehicle, but were stopped by members of the Police before leaving.

Proof of purchase of gold items from a store was found in the stolen vehicle.

According to the Police, the 47-year-old confessed to the burglary and theft of the church and that some of the stolen goods had been sold at the store listed on the receipt found.

The second suspect, at this stage, is not reporting anything in relation to the burglary.

Both were arrested yesterday afternoon on warrants issued against them. The exams continue at the TAE of Nicosia.
