The paraphilology about the suspension of the Chief of Police must stop because it does not help to accomplish our work, police unions said today in Parliament, whose representatives attended the legal committee to discuss a proposal for a law to criminalize the hood. The Minister of Justice and the Chief of Police were scheduled to attend the agenda. The first one did not attend because it was said that she was accompanying the President of SYRIZA to the Imprisoned Memorials and the Leader was represented by Assistant Leader Stelios Ioannou.
In statements after the meeting, Nikos Loizidis, president of the branch of the Equality Police Force, called for an end to the surrounding atmosphere for the chief and his eventual suspension, saying that at the moment the chief is Mr. Stelios Papatheodorou, with a deputy chief and four assistant chiefs .
He said that from today EQUALITY is coming forward and that he has been silent for the last few days out of respect but the situation must be ended.
"If the state wants to choose anything else according to the constitution it is its right. But four chiefs have been dismissed in recent years, four Ministers have resigned, if all this does not raise concerns about the need to change situations in the Police that have been broken for decades, and do not help the orderly operation, then we have a problem. The Police are not here for a communication game nor a way for some to draw arbitrary conclusions, but they are there to protect society," he said.
Mr. Loizidis said that an end must be given, and if the issue is over as the President said, he added, then "the President must say that it is over and that the Leader is Mr. Papatheodorou".
He said there should be respect for those people who either lead or are members of the Police.
When asked for information that a leader outside the police force will be appointed, Mr. Loizidis said that the constitution gives him this authority but "at the moment our leader is Mr. Stelios Papatheodorou".
"Did you think there would be a murder, a terrorist attack? What will we tell the world? Have you ever heard things being said about the president of a union, for example, that the team is not affected?", he asked.
He said that he spoke yesterday and today with the Presidency and as a guild they sent the message that we finally have laws and regulations and paraphilology affects the functioning of the House.
He also criticized the fact that yesterday there was a wide meeting about the fires in the Presidential building and the Chief was absent and the Police were not even represented.
The President of ASDYK Loukas Christou said that the issue has been in the news for a month and he certainly feels sorry for them.
"We expected the state to stand by the Police, from the ordinary policeman to the leadership. The police are not responsible for the immigration problem, they are not responsible for the population change, they are there to do their job and need the support of the state and the will to enforce law and order. There is no will to support the Police," he said.
The President of the Cyprus Police Association Kyriakos Charalambous emphasized that they continue to do their job as they should, with the aim of protecting citizens and their property and based on law and order.
"Police officers are not involved in politics, they are doing their job by enforcing law and order and that is our role," he said.
