The Civil Defense Force, following the yellow warning issued by the Meteorological Department regarding an extremely high temperature expected to reach around 40 degrees in the interior and around 33 degrees in the higher mountains, is making the following recommendations to the public with the aim of prevention and proper preparation to minimize the risks and negative consequences of the heat:

  • Avoid unnecessary movement and heavy physical work under the sun.
  • Avoid sunbathing, walking for a long time or running under the sun.
  • Avoid crowded places.
  • Wear cool, comfortable and light-colored clothing.
  • Protect your head with a hat.
  • Wear good quality sunglasses that protect against sun glare.
  • Eat small and light meals, rich in fruits and vegetables and low in fat.
  • Drink plenty of water and fruit and vegetable juices.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages.
  • Avoid sudden changes in temperature.
  • Use artificial means of ventilation (fans) or an air conditioning system.
  • Consult your doctor for any health problems that may arise.
  • You care for relatives or other close people who are elderly or in need of care.
