The Turkish leader criticized the German troops stationed in the free lands of Cyprus, stressing that Turkey must be informed of any military developments in Cyprus.
"The arrival of foreign troops on the island without the approval of Turkey, the guarantor of the Republic of Cyprus, and ours is against international agreements. The guarantors of Cyprus are Turkey, Britain and Greece and this must be taken into account," he said in his statements from Afionkarahisar.
No damage should be caused to the island
Pointing out that British bases in Cyprus are located on the island as part of the agreements, Tatar said he is in consultation with Turkey on all these issues.
“The British should be careful when using the bases. The bases are used for the national interests of the United Kingdom and in a way that does not harm the Turks and Greek Cypriots in Cyprus."
He compared Israel to EOKA
The Turkish leader compared Israel's attitude towards Palestine to that of the EOKA organization in the past.
"We Turkish Cypriots as a people have been faced with similar violent incidents, during those difficult times as the whole world knows, our people were massacred by the terrorists of the National Organization of Cypriot Fighters (EOKA). What has been done can never be accepted, especially in this day and age," he said.
"Therefore, if there is going to be a solution in Cyprus, it should be a two-state solution. The status of the Turkish Republic as a guarantor country and the presence of the Turkish army as a guarantor of peace and tranquility on the island must never be abolished.
We understand that this is the red line of the Turkish Cypriot people. If they don't realize this, we see what the other side (Israel) can do. In Cyprus we follow all these disturbing events with such a perception.
The Republic of Turkey is closely monitoring the matter. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with the statements he made, advises with great wisdom to find the right path".
