Kıbrıs (28.10.23, kibrisgazetesi.com) writes that Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar was awarded an honorary doctorate by the 18 March University in Canakkale, declared the start of the academic year and gave the first lecture, then participated in the deposition ceremony foundation stone of the student residence of the university.

Before Tatar's speech, a video prepared by the so-called presidency of the occupying regime was shown about the "new policy" of the Turkish Cypriot side and recent developments in Cyprus, including the "two-state solution", followed by Tatar's speech had the theme: "The Position and Strategic Importance of the TRNC in the Blue Homeland".

Claiming that "Cyprus is Turkish and will remain Turkish", Tatar argued that an epic was written in Cyprus during the period of the national struggle and now, as the "5th president of the TRNC", he is fighting for the rights of the Turkish Cypriot "people" and working for the protection of his rights.

Explaining the founding phase of the Republic of Cyprus and claiming that the Turkish Cypriot "people", were founding partners of the 1960 Republic and were "equally sovereign in Cyprus with the Greek Cypriots", Tatar pointed out that the Republic of Turkey was the guarantor of that Republic.

Arguing that "Turkey did not leave the Turkish Cypriot people alone during the years of national struggle and that they are now explaining to the world the policy of the two-state solution with the support of Turkey", Tatar described the 1974 Turkish invasion as a "peace operation" and characterized it as a turning point for the Turkish Cypriot "people".

He reiterated that they now support the two-state solution and said: "We will never give up Turkey's independence and sovereignty and guarantees," while adding that the new policy, which has taken its place as "national policy," maintained despite pressure and that they would not sit down at the negotiating table for a federal solution.
