Turkish leader Ersin Tatar reaffirmed his intention to take part in a 5 + 1 meeting on the Cyprus issue and in Elizabeth Spehar, saying that formal talks could begin "only on the basis of the two states".
The meeting of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus with the Turkish Cypriot leader in the occupied territories lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes and shortly afterwards Mr. Tatar made statements. As he said, the renewal of the mandate of UNFICYP was discussed, the report on the good services to the UN UN, but he reiterated to Ms. Spehar his position on the Cyprus issue, while he asked - as he said - help in the issue of vaccines from the EU.
"If after the 5 + 1 conference for Cyprus a process of formal negotiations begins, it can only be done within the framework of two equal states with international status, a cooperation of two states that will live side by side on the basis of sovereign equality."
We are in a period of preparation, said Mr. Tatar, and the processes for a conference end of February - beginning of March continue intensively, depending on the course of the pandemic. Mr. Tatar said that the Turkish Cypriot side and Turkey "have the same way, give our messages clearly.
The EU added: "I am not part of this case. Our interlocutors in a 3 + 1 meeting are the UN. This meeting will be in the context of the good services of the Secretary General. If technical information is requested from the EU, this can be done. "But the EU is not part of such a meeting and should not be."
Technical Committees and vaccines

Ersin Tatar said that today he received a report from the competent Technical Committee on Health for the supply of vaccines from the EU through the "e / k administration" - as he called the Republic of Cyprus - saying that such a thing "we will not accept. They discussed, he continued, other issues with Ms. Spehar and told her that she should be neutral and objective and that it was her duty to mediate. He also spoke of injustice against the Turkish Cypriots from 1964 until today with resolution 186 (for the approval of the renewal of the term of UNFICYP). He reiterated that with his own election he has opened a new page for the Turkish Cypriot side and works for the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriots.
