The Divine Liturgy and the annual memorial service for the victims of the air tragedy of the "Helios" aircraft were performed on Wednesday morning, at Grammatiko, Attica.
The memorial service was attended by several relatives of the 121 victims of the tragedy. The annual memorial service was officiated by the Metropolitan of Kifissia, Maroussi and Oropos, Cyril. Then all the participants will climb to the top of the mountain, at the point of the plane crash, where a trishagio was performed.
The Republic of Cyprus was represented by the Ambassador of Cyprus to Greece, Kyriakos Kenevezos. Wreaths were laid on behalf of the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, the Speaker of Parliament, Dimitris Syllouris, the Democratic Alarm, AKEL, and OKOE. The new Mayor of Marathon, Stergios Tsirkas, was also present.
The Boeing of "Ilios", which was carrying 115 passengers and six crew members, bound for Pragma and a stopover in Athens, crashed at 12:04 at noon on August 14, 2005, in Grammatiko, Attica.
