The Veterinary Services will proceed tomorrow, Friday, with the killing of the animals at the livestock unit in Pachna, where cases of foot-and-mouth disease had been identified, the President of the Veterinary Association and member of the epidemiological team, Dr. Dimitris Epaminondas, confirmed to CNA.
Asked to comment on information that the preparation of the burial site for the animals of Father Christos' livestock unit began today, Mr. Epameinondas said that "the burial sites have been opened and tomorrow the killing of all the animals of this particular farm will proceed."
At the same time, he expressed his satisfaction with the stance taken by the farm owner, adding that "this is what we asked for from the beginning, this cooperation, to close the issue with the killings and move forward with sampling and see where we are."
Mr. Epameinondas said that, so far, no other positive case has been identified in the area and "the units that are close to the father's unit appear to be negative."
"Since Famagusta and Paphos are still clean (of cases) and even if this was the only outbreak in Limassol, we hope that we will continue to be clean, which means that we have also controlled the disease," he added.
It is noted that in the Pachna area there has been a police presence since Thursday morning, for the smooth conduct of the entire process.
