Her aunt spoke about the circumstances of the tragic accident, in which the 20-year-old law student, Irini Kontogiorgou, lost her life in Cyprus, where she had been studying for the last few years.
The young lady was riding in a rented car with six other people, while the driver was a person her age, who was drunk six times over the limit. The collision was fierce and 20-year-old Irini died instantly, while the other passengers were injured.
"We are waiting for the police report. You know the driver was under the influence of alcohol… they were all fellow students from different schools. The car was rented by a friend and fellow student of Irini. There were five children and two other friends were following them on scooters. Because it was raining and the road was slippery, they left the scooters and got into the car. The children became seven. There were three in the front, three in the back and one in the trunk. They chose that particular child to drive. It's a roundabout and they crashed. The car was smashed. Irini had a brain injury, according to the medical examiner's report, and death was instantaneous," her aunt told STAR.
"Her mother is in a miserable state"
Irini's aunt also refers to the mother of the 20-year-old girl, who is in a tragic situation.
"She lost her only child. She has not yet realized that she has lost her child. He is in a state of shock," he adds.
Inconsolable, the bereaved student's aunt emphasizes and breaks into sobs "For me she was my only niece who was my child and had the name of my beloved mother who died young."
"In Cyprus, the students have been shocked. In fact, they had a celebration now on Saturday, November 23, and they postponed it in memory of Irene."
Finally, she asks the young children to be very careful when driving, as lately the traffic accidents where young people lose their lives are increasing.
