Old or even stationary cars are a huge problem, especially in the municipalities of large cities. There are neighborhoods where old cars due to wear and tear are a trademark. The state now offers the public the option to withdraw old cars by putting money in their pockets.
The process begins on Tuesday, February 04, 2020, and interested citizens can take the necessary steps to withdraw the vehicles. The plan was approved by the Council of Ministers last November.
From Tuesday, interested citizens will be able to go to the website of the Department of Road Transport where the relevant form will be available.
The criteria
Of course, not all applications will be accepted, as there are some clear criteria. The first and main criterion for the vehicle to be 15 years and older. Secondly, those interested must have purchased a new vehicle since they must have the ownership card in their hands, which they must submit to the Department.
Destruction of a vehicle
The withdrawn car will be transported to a special area where it will be destroyed. With the destruction of the vehicle, the citizens will receive the certificate of destruction which they are obliged to submit to the competent Department in order to be able to complete the procedure.
Sponsorship 2000 euros
At the same time, citizens will have the opportunity to be subsidized with an amount of 2000 euros when they submit to the Department both the certificate of destruction of their vehicle and the ownership certificate (stalk) of the car they bought.
The total amount available is three million euros, so it is estimated that about 1.250 sponsorships will be granted.
Electric vehicle
At the same time, citizens have a second choice. To proceed with the purchase of an electric car. In this case, it is not necessary to withdraw vehicles. With the submission of the application, there will be a race-road race, since the first 100 who will submit an application will be favored and will have an electric vehicle. At the same time, they will put the amount of 5000 euros in their pocket as a grant.
There is a possibility that citizens will take advantage of both plans. Both for vehicle withdrawal and for the purchase of an electric vehicle. In this case, citizens benefit from the amount of 7.000 (2000 for withdrawal and 5000 for the purchase of electricity).
What about used cars
The plan to withdraw vehicles involves replacing it with a new car. The Minister of Transport, Giannis Karousos, gave instructions for the consultation to proceed with the replacement of the cars that are being withdrawn with used ones, in order to help other masses of the population. The grant in this case amounts to the amount of 1000 euros.
The consultation started with the vehicle companies and if a positive result emerges then a public consultation will take place with a relevant post on the website of the Department of Road Transport on the Internet.
In the case of disabled vehicles and the plan in force where the beneficiaries benefit from state sponsorship to secure a special conversion car or disability car, there is no conflict with the other two plans. Therefore, replacing a retractable car can be done with a disabled vehicle.
