The escalating Turkish violations and false declarations of Famagusta for Famagusta will be brought before Lut.
The ongoing and intensifying illegal interventions and actions of Turkey directed against Cyprus, as well as what are threateningly announced by the occupation regime for Famagusta, will be presented by the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis, before the special envoy of the Secretary General of the UN Lut, during the meeting they will have in the context of her visit to Cyprus in early September, a government source told KYPE.
He also pointed out, answering questions, that Ms. Lut is not expected to "bring anything" and that the goal is for the parties to agree with each other "so that the UN Secretary General has the message and the ground he needs". During the visit, Ms. Lut will see if there is common ground for reaching terms of reference, he added.
He noted that regarding the terms of reference, the President will refer to what he noted and the proposal he submitted during his informal meeting with Mr. Akinci on August 9 for their content.
The President had told the Turkish leader that the negotiations could begin immediately on the basis of the Joint Declaration of 11 February 2014, the convergences that have been reached and which led to the Crans Montana conference, as well as the basis of the discussion on six parameters of the UN Secretary General, as it evolved during the Conference on Cyprus until the dinner of 6 July 2017.
The government source noted that the fact that Ms. Lut is expected to have contacts with all three guarantors (Greece, Turkey, the United Kingdom) may not be irrelevant as the exact date of her arrival on the island has not yet been announced and that there is also no information on how many days the envoy of the Secretary General will stay in Cyprus.
The day before yesterday, Ms. Lut had telephone conversations with President Anastasiadis and the Turkish leader, Mustafa Akinci, with whom she discussed the continuation of consultations with them, after the informal meeting that the two leaders had on August 9. .
The two leaders announced after the meeting that they decided to resolutely continue to be involved in Jane Hall Luth's efforts to reach the terms of reference, which will allow for structured and result-oriented negotiations that will lead to a solution. with a sense of urgency. They also announced their readiness for a tripartite meeting with the UN Secretary-General following the UN General Assembly in New York to plan further steps.
The Government Spokesman, Prodromos Prodromou, stated in a statement the day before yesterday that President Anastasiadis and Ms. Lut shared the view that the necessary preparations can be completed to reach a resumption of negotiations.
A date is required for the National
At the same time, the search for a date for the convening of the National Council continues, in order for its members to be informed by President Anastasiadis about the August 9th meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.
According to KYPE, the date under discussion is for the end of August or later, with the meeting taking place in Nicosia, after the President of the Republic will have left the presidential summer residence in Troodos.
At the same time, the scenario of the convening of the National Council remains open after the completion of the contacts with Ms. Lut, so that President Anastasiadis is able to collectively inform the body, both about the meeting with Mr. Akindzi and about the contacts with the United Nations official.
