Issues of the free province of Famagusta, including the reform of the Local Government and the utilization of the space where the antennas are located in Cape Greco, were discussed in a meeting held by the Board. of the Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EVEA) with the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannettou, and deputies of the province.

An announcement of EVEA states that "the Board of the Chamber met with the Mayor of Ayia Napa and several MPs from the province of Famagusta, during which issues concerning the area were discussed. Among the issues was the relocation of AXIK to Ayia Napa, with the President of EVEA, Augustinos Papathomas, assuring the Mayor that EVEA will continue to support its initial position for the relocation of AXIK to the free province of Famagusta.

The issue of the reform of the Local Self-Government was also discussed, in the light of the decision of the Parliament to postpone the municipal elections. It was reported that the unification of the 4 Municipalities of the free province of Famagusta into one Municipality does not serve either the financial or the national interests of the province of Famagusta ".

On the contrary, it is added in the announcement, "the unification of the Municipalities of Ayia Napa, Sotiras and the Community of Liopetri, both geographically and from a tourist and economic point of view, will contribute to the strong and rational development of the region".

A special discussion was held on the issue of the use of the space where the antennas are located in Cape Greco and both Mr. Papathomas and the Mayor of Ayia Napa "agreed that the space should be used, either by creating a museum or a conference center by Municipality ".

In a statement, Mr. Papathomas said that "the Chamber is next to the requests of the Municipalities and Communities of the free area of ​​Famagusta, in order to investigate the development and prospects of progress of the entire area."

For his part, the Mayor of Ayia Napa "expressed his gratitude to the Chairman of the Board. of EVEA for the support of the Chamber ".
