The President of the Environmentalists Movement-Citizens Cooperation, Charalambos Theopeptou, spoke on Radio Proto about the increased levels of dust in the atmosphere observed in the last few days.
As he mentioned, the danger from dust exists both outside and inside closed spaces.
Due to the fact that it is light, as he explained, "even the wind that is created when someone moves around the house, it can lift it again."
In Cyprus, as he said, the air quality is at a very bad level, according to the European Environment Agency.
In fact, as Mr. Theopeptou mentioned, there are 600-800 premature deaths a year in Cyprus, due to the quality of the air.
These deaths, as he explained, are usually due to problems in the circulatory system as the dust particles are so small that when someone breathes them in, the lungs cannot contain them and they are transferred to the circulatory system causing problems.
Mr. Theopeptou added that 1/3 of the dust in Cyprus comes from abroad, however, the rest is due to cars.
Finally, he noted that in such large episodes with increased dust in the atmosphere, someone should stay at home, however, if he goes out he should use a special mask.
For the complaint of MP Alexandra Attalidou against her colleague Andreas Themistokleous, the President of the Environmentalists-Citizens Cooperation Movement, Charalambos Theopeptou, was placed on Radio Proto.
As he mentioned, there is a problem with this Member of Parliament both in the Plenary meetings and in the meetings of the Committees of the Parliament.
"Something must be done about the whole situation", he said characteristically, noting that the matter will be examined by the Ethics Committee of the Parliament to which the complaint was made.
He added that the change of the rule for the time limit that any MP has to address the Plenary will also be discussed, as Mr. Themistokleous has the requirement, as he typically mentioned, to speak as many hours as he wants because he is an elected Member of Parliament.
He emphasized that there is unanimity regarding the bad behavior of Mr. Themistokleous and expressed the hope that a solution will be found.
