In contact with the Officer and Spokesperson of the Thera Fund, Mr. Petros Anagioto, pointed out to us that the hunt starts on Sunday, October 31 and will take place every Sunday and Wednesday.

He also emphasizes that there is the application of the Game and Fauna Service, "Artemis CY", which lists all the information about hunting with "hunting maps, nature study trails and special protection zones". There, as he stressed, Mr. Anagiotos, "shows the forbidden areas as well as the list of preys".

The Announcement of the Game and Fauna Service

The Hunting and Fauna Service, on the occasion of the first hunting expedition of epidemic prey, wishes all hunters good and safe hunting and invites them as throughout the hunting season, which begins on Sunday 31/10/2021, to observe all the written and unwritten laws of hunting and to show the necessary respect to their colleagues and to the foreign properties that will host them.

In addition, it calls on hunters to demonstrate the necessary hunting conscience, not to create large hunting groups with a large number of hunters and hounds so that the prey has an increased chance of escape and does not tolerate poaching during the night and those who do not realize role played by restricted hunting areas and the yield limit per excursion (COT).

It also reminds hunter-gatherer hunters that the marking number of hounds they will carry in their car or escort them on their hunting trip should be on their hunting license and that this can be done through the electronic platform of the Game and Fauna Service gws.moi.gov.cy.

In addition, the Game and Fauna Service points out:

1. The hunting of the hare, the partridge and the partridge will be allowed every Sunday and Wednesday from 31/10/2021 until 29/12/2021, ie for 18 excursions.

2. The maximum yield per excursion (COT) for hares is one (1), for partridges four (4) for trampolines one (1) and unlimited for other prey,

3. It is forbidden to light a fire in unspecified places,

4. The transport of shotguns on rural or unpaved roads is prohibited 60 minutes before and 60 minutes after the hours when hunting is allowed,

5. Study the allowed hunting areas well before going out. The application for smart phones "Artemis Cy", created by our Service, shows the limits of prohibited hunting areas. The exact boundaries of the prohibited hunting areas are described in the relevant decree which was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic and is posted on the website of the Service.

6. To immediately report any illegality they find on the following mobile phones of the Service or to the Police at 1414.

Nicosia 99445697, Limassol 99445728, Larnaca / Famagusta 99634325, Paphos 99445679

"Hunters can also contact the above telephone numbers of the Service to resolve questions about hunting areas or to enlighten them on any other issue related to hunting."

According to the announcement, due to the large number of hunters that are expected to go out, the possibility of hunting accidents or other unpleasant situations increases significantly and for this, below are some simple instructions for hunters to reduce the possibility of causing "ordinary" hunting accidents. :

1. To protect their eyes with special glasses.

2. To wear a hunting orange hat or 30% of their body to be covered with hunting orange as provided by the relevant legislation.

3. Plan in advance the route and the space they will chase and give themselves enough time to approach the space they will chase or return to their car.

4. Avoid hunting alone and always have another person know the exact spot where they will be hunting and the probable time they will return.

5. To plan in advance how they will act or who they will contact in case of an unpleasant incident.

6. Avoid the consumption of alcoholic beverages because their hunting abilities and reflexes are reduced.

7. Always have water with them.

8. Do not overestimate their potential and hunt within their capabilities without putting pressure on their body.

9. Before picking up the gun and pulling the trigger, make sure who their target is and what is behind it.

10. Never shoot low and lightning fast.

11. Always know where the members of their company and the nearest hunters are.

12. Never shoot with their instinct or hearing as their only guide and if they have not visually confirmed their aim and what is behind it.

13. Avoid shooting if they are unsure of the existence of prey. Good and responsible hunters always make sure before shooting and usually, they are accurate, due to their composure.

14. Never walk or stand with your finger on the trigger.

15. When hunting on uneven terrain with friends, always check the direction in which the barrel of their weapon is facing.

16. Never run from one point to another with a full gun. It is good when they have to cross a difficult obstacle, to empty their weapon and leave it with the barrel pointed away and at a point from which they can easily take it again.

17. The transport of hunting weapons in vehicles is allowed only when they are disassembled in a case.

18. Always keep in mind that no one can stop the bullets of the cartridge after firing. An ordinary shotgun kills at 40 meters and can cause very serious injuries at a distance of 100 meters.

In addition, the Hunting & Fauna Service calls on hunters to avoid hunting near residential areas or detached houses because there is a risk of causing serious accidents. At the same time, it is reminded that according to the relevant legislation, hunting is prohibited within a radius of 500m. from residential areas, within a radius of 200m. from individual houses and within a radius of 300m. from military installations.

At this point it is worth noting that, according to the provisions of the new legislation, which has been in force since July 2017, the usual offenses that occur during this hunting season, ie hunting without a hunting license and hunting in a restricted hunting area , are punished with an extrajudicial fine starting from € 2.000 and increases depending on the extent of the offense as well as their combination with other offenses. At the same time, the extrajudicial fine for poaching during the night is punished with an extrajudicial fine of € 25.000.

Finally, all hunters are appealed to avoid posting, on social media, photos or videos that offend the sport of hunting.
