Nine countries are participating in the 'Shield of the Mediterranean' operation, which began in 2006, according to the Turkish daily Yeni κafak, which says an agreement will be signed by Albania, Azerbaijan and Algeria. Georgia, Libya, Lebanon, Pakistan, Tunisia and Jordan.
The daily says that Turkey has been in negotiations with these nine countries for a year and a half and a lot of progress has been made. However, it is stated that in the event of an agreement, their fleet is not expected to participate but to exchange information and support.
According to the company 'Shield of the Mediterranean', frigates, corvettes, cruisers, submarines and drones are involved, which move from the base of Aksaz, Mersin and the port in Famagusta.
