As of February 26, the registration licenses of 464.064 vehicles were renewed, the Department of Road Transport (DRT) of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works said in a statement, recalling that the last day of renewal will be Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 24:00 (midnight).
As stated, the registration permits for the year 2025 are renewed from Tuesday, January 7, 2025, and by February 26, 2025, the registration permits of 464.064 vehicles have been renewed. It is noted for comparison purposes that, by the corresponding day in 2024, namely February 26.02.2024, 436.923, the registration permits of XNUMX vehicles had been renewed.
According to the TOM, the last day for renewal will be Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 24:00 (midnight), while registration permits can be renewed for periods of three, six, nine and twelve months.
It is noted that registration permits will be renewed until midnight on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 without charge. For renewals made after Tuesday, March 11, 2025, a fee of 10 euros plus 10% of the registration permit corresponding to the amount due for the current year will be charged.
It is recalled that for the renewal of the registration certificate, a certificate of suitability and insurance must be available.
At the same time, it is stated that vehicle owners must update their contact details, which are registered in the TOM registry, in order to be able to receive information (e.g. information on recalls) regarding their vehicles.
The TOM advises everyone to ensure that their vehicle registration is renewed on time and, in any case, not to wait until the last few days, in order to avoid possible overloading of the system that may cause inconvenience.
It is recalled that those who had renewed their vehicle registration for the year 2024 but do not intend to renew it for the year 2025 must submit to the TOM a notice for the immobilisation of the vehicle. The immobilisation can also be done online on the TOM website (https://rtd.mcw.gov.cy). Otherwise, the obligation to pay the amount corresponding to the traffic fee continues to exist.
It is noted that vehicles for which their registration permit has not been renewed for the year 2024 and have not been declared as immobilised will be deleted from the TOM register if the amount due for the year 2024 is not paid and their registration permit is renewed for 2025 by midnight on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
It is emphasized that in the event of destruction of the vehicle, an application for cancellation of the vehicle registration (form TOM 98A) must be submitted to the TOM, accompanied by the "Certificate of Destruction" issued by licensed vehicle waste treatment facilities, in order to exempt the vehicle owner from the obligation to pay traffic fees from the date of destruction of the vehicle.
It is noted that traffic permits can be renewed throughout the year only online.
It is added that vehicles belonging to embassies, private buses of families with many children, vehicles belonging to quarries, old vehicles (antique) with a special permit (which pay the amount of 25 euros), vehicles belonging to the United Nations, and vehicles belonging to other organizations with exception code 04 (and do not hold access codes to the Department's system) are excluded, for which their owners should contact the Funds for the payment of the registration fees for their vehicles.
It is noted that no notifications have been sent to vehicle owners for the renewal of registration permits.
