According to the latest information received today by the Ministry of Health from the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, three new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed.

Specifically, these are:

Two people who had contact with a case that had been confirmed the previous days.
A person who had returned from abroad (Belgium) remained under house arrest and contacted the competent authorities when he presented with symptoms.
The Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the Ministry of Health has already started tracking the contacts of all three cases and will proceed to take samples for specialized examinations.

Based on the specific data, the total number of positive cases amounted to 49, of which 27 were contacts.

Regarding the laboratory analysis, it is emphasized that the sampling is determined based on protocols of the World Health Organization and the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) according to the available scientific data and following the hierarchy of the actual hierarchies. Therefore, citizens are urged to trust the judgment of health professionals, given that worldwide the medical equipment used for laboratory analysis is beginning to show shortages. Unnecessary examinations can create a problem for our fellow citizens who really need it.

Finally, on the occasion, the Ministry of Health reminds that the Pancyprian Medical Association has called on the medical community to express interest in providing scientific assistance in the effort to deal with the pandemic. The Ministry of Health looks forward to the positive response of doctors, since in similar cases the medical community has shown professionalism and a high sense of responsibility. Public health prevention is everyone's responsibility.
