The deadly fire that broke out on July 125 in the semi-mountainous Limassol left behind approximately 23 square kilometers of scorched land, according to the new analysis by the Eratosthenes Center of Excellence, which was based on high-resolution satellite data obtained on 24/7/2025 at noon, while an updated estimate is expected.
Specifically, the Center of Excellence states in its announcement that, based on data from the WorldCover Program of the European Space Agency (ESA), approximately 50% of the total burned area concerns grasslands, 31% sclerophyllous vegetation, 16% woody vegetation and 1,3% corresponds to residential areas.
It is noted that an updated assessment will follow, as at the time the data was received, the fire was still in progress. With the next available image, the announcement states, possible errors due to the presence of smoke will be reduced and a full assessment of the damage will be carried out.
