A quantity of more than 96 firecrackers was detected and seized yesterday in a wooded area in Paphos.
After evaluating information, members of the Anti-Narcotics Service spotted three men unloading boxes from two cars in a wooded area in Paphos shortly after one in the afternoon yesterday.
Subsequent tests found 34 cardboard boxes containing 10 firecrackers in the first car driven by a 18,960-year-old man.
In the second car, in which a 31-year-old (driver) and a 23-year-old had gone to the area, another 52 boxes containing 77,180 firecrackers were found.
All three persons were arrested for the self-inflicted offense of illegal possession and transportation of explosives.
In the possession of the 34-year-old, a shoulder bag was found containing a sum of money in excess of 3,000 euros, for which he did not give satisfactory explanations as to its origin.
From further examinations followed by Police Pyrotechnicians, it was found that these are factory cylindrical paper firecrackers.
Court warrants were issued against all three of the above persons and they were re-arrested to facilitate investigations.
