The Police are investigating the causes of a fatal road collision, which occurred this morning, 20/5/2025, in Nicosia, in which Wasantha Wajirani Liyanage, aged 55, from Sri Lanka, lost her life.
The road collision occurred around 7 in the morning, on Archbishop Makariou Avenue in Lakatameia, heading from Deftera to Lakatameia, when the car driven by the 55-year-old, under circumstances that are being investigated, collided with a truck, driven by a 27-year-old man, with a 23-year-old passenger.
Police officers and an ambulance crew rushed to the scene and the 55-year-old was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The 27-year-old driver was arrested on a court warrant and taken into custody to facilitate interrogations.
The Nicosia Traffic Police Department is investigating the circumstances under which the road collision occurred.
