Tragedy in Paphos: 17-year-old student dies after inhaling tear gas

He was taken to the city's General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A 17-year-old student in Paphos was found unconscious on Sunday afternoon from a school yard in Paphos and was taken to the city's General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, the young man is a student at the Technical School. According to testimony obtained by the Police, he said, the young man had allegedly inhaled gas from a can/spray, which is used in lighters, in the presence of his peers.

The 17-year-old was taken unconscious by ambulance at around 19:00 PM on Sunday from a school yard and was taken by ambulance to the Accident and Emergency Department of Paphos General Hospital after fainting in front of his friends. However, he continued, despite the efforts of the hospital doctors to revive him, which were not possible.

Mr. Nikolaou reported that the Paphos Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the circumstances of the death of the 17-year-old permanent resident of Cyprus, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, and the examinations are continuing.
